The second of two Shanghai E-Prix races at Shanghai International Circuit takes place. When the Sanya E-Prix was run in 2019, French driver Jean-Éric Vergne took home the checkered flag for Chinese outfit DS Techeetah. Vergne now races for DS Penske.

The Formula E Series returns to China for the first time since 2019 in the first of two Shanghai E-Prix. The drivers last raced in China in the Sanya E-Prix at the Haitang Bay Circuit on Hainan Island, before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the event.
